Can’t decide which photo to share? Well, now you don’t have to!
Whether you’re a photographer selecting an image from a shoot, a business trying to tell a story without spamming your followers, or just a regular Joe who likes to snap photos of your dog, we have news for you. It’s been a long time since Instagram introduced an update with a feature that really shook things up, which makes yesterday’s release of the slideshow feature a major development for the platform’s users.
This game changer is already making waves as more and more people are giving it a try. Instead of the single image interface that has defined Instagram since its inception, you can now select up to 10 photos to share in one post. This means you’ll no longer have to scroll through multiple posts from the same person promising “just one more” photo of their baby, and instead you can choose to look through the slideshow, or just scroll on down.
Once you’ve updated your version of Instagram, go to post a photo like you normally would and you’ll notice a “select multiples” option. Simply click on it, and you will be able to select up to 10 photos and videos. From there, you can edit each image separately and caption the entire thing.
You may be wondering why this matters to you and your business, so let us tell you.
For fashion and food bloggers alone, this feature will change the way we use Instagram. Instead of a single wide shot of an outfit, you can now include detail shots and highlight accessories. For chefs, this will be a great way to show, step-by-step, how to make that delicious looking pasta. And, of course, if you’re selling a product you can now show off the entire line in one post.
If your business hosts an event, use the slideshow feature to tell the story of the day. You can combine video and photo to share your top 10 favourite moments, or create a timeline to draw out the narrative aspect of the event.
There’s always been the question of just how many photos you can share to your feed within 10 minutes without losing followers. You want things to be timely and relevant, but you also want to stick to the unwritten rule of Instagram that looks down on the ‘oversharer.’ With slideshows, you can get the best of both worlds and share all your best shots in one go. Your followers will appreciate having the choice to view all the photos or just the single cover image instead of having a clogged up feed.
We’re excited to see how the many creators on Instagram will use this new feature to push the boundaries of the platform. Follow Csek Creative on Instagram to check out our latest stories, slideshows, and posts on all things marketing.
