Our Story

In the fields of marketing, custom website design, and web application development, we have a long-standing history here in Kelowna and the Okanagan.

Csek Creative was founded in 2000 as Welcome To Kelowna Ventures, a Kelowna business and news portal that still exists today. Quickly seeing a demand to develop custom websites for businesses that were looking to get to that “next level”, the DotCom Media brand was born and between 2000 and 2010 DotCom Media built affordable, custom websites for over 300 Kelowna and Okanagan-based companies. Each website had features unique to the individual needs of the company such as content management systems, e-commerce, referral systems, course and student, and other unique custom web applications.

In 2007 DotCom Media began to experience change:

  • Search Engine Optimization was offered as an in-house service, which pushed us into becoming a marketing agency.
  • Ryan Lahay began to develop advanced online web applications, tailored to the  individual needs of each business. Examples include tools such as referral systems, e-education delivery, and course management, Google Tools integration, and website networks.
  • The first iteration of our Content Management System (CMS), codenamed Simple, was born. Now on it's 3rd iteration, Simple comes packed with all our websites and is a more secure, and easy-to-use alternative to open source.
  • We became one of the only Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) consultants and website hosts in the valley.

As a result of the last three years, we began to shed the image of being a budget provider with a single product – the website, and transform ourselves into being a high quality, competitively priced, full-service marketing agency, capable of developing powerful, well designed, flexible, and easy-to-use online business tools.

Everyone can agree that there's so much more to websites these days than just the "dot com". We decided it was time for a new name. Something fresh and with focus. Something which showed we would stake our name behind our work. We needed something that went beyond mere website development and proved to the world that we had become the creative online marketing and development agency that only time and the experience of helping over 300 local companies could do.

Through much consideration and soul searching as a company, we found that the heart of our corporate brand existed in the philosophy of the company's original founders Nikki and Jim Csek (pronounced “check”).

For us, their name stands for excellence in customer service and relations, for listening and asking the right questions, for being responsible and accurate, and for being driven, not only to succeed, but also to walk along the path of success with our partners in the beautiful little economic and cultural area we call the Okanagan.

In early 2010 we named ourselves Csek Creative and combined the check mark (to symbolize accomplishment and excellence) with the standard symbol of communication to form our visual brand and mantra: Communication. Creativity. Accomplishment.
